Helen Francis is a professional editor who has worked in all areas of publishing, while Richard Francis is a novelist, biographer, historian and university professor of creative writing.

Richard is a marvellously perceptive and generous reader and teacher. He has such a good instinct for what’s at the heart of a book, and how best to get through to it. He’s wise, funny and kind, and equally good whether he’s grappling with the minute detail on the page, tackling larger issues of tone and pace, or addressing the structural engineering of a whole novel.

Helen is an excellent editor. She acquired my novel, Confession with Blue Horses, for Head of Zeus, and helped me improve the draft with her insightful, sensitive and creative suggestions. Her love of story-telling, paired with her professional experience, made working with her a real pleasure.
